Full course description
This 4-week training program is ideal for first-time truck drivers looking to enter the driving industry. This entry-level truck drivers program is designed to equip students with the necessary skills for employment in the field. The program cost includes the online coursework which will cover comprehensive training covering essential areas such as federally mandated theory and safety protocols, and hands-on vehicle inspections and practical driving skills, including backing and maneuvering of the truck. Upon successful completion of the training, students will be tested by certified CDL testers from Lake Sumter State College and receive a certifcate stating youhave meet the required hours most over the road companies require. The testing fee is also included in the program cost. Training and testing will take place in trucks with an automatic transmission that are provided by the college. This structured approach ensures that aspiring truck drivers are well-prepared to meet the demands of the industry and operate safely on the roads. Upon graduation, while we cannot guarantee employment, we will work with our partners to help you find any available opportunities.
Before beginning the program, students must have their CDL Class A permit with airbrakes and DOT medical card.
Lake Sumter State College offers small class sizes.
Classes are held at our Sumter campus located at 1423 County Road 526A, Sumterville, FL 33585. Class hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with additional online work required.
